I am a graduate student at Arizona State University, pursuing my master’s in social justice and human rights with a graduate certificate in nonprofit leadership and management. My family and I are former refugees from Kosovo, and we were resettled in Arizona back in 1999. The agency that resettled us is now known as Refugee Focus, part of Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest – one of LIRS’s state partnerships. I have a bachelor’s degree in history and a research focus in asylum seekers and refugees. I have worked abroad in Athens and Lesvos, with NGOs providing direct service to asylum seekers on the ground. Moreover, I am a part of the academy alum from the 2017 Migrant and Refugee Leadership Academy. Once I complete my master’s degree I am interested in pursuing nonprofit and public policy in advocacy for refugees and migrants. I look forward to meeting with congregations and engaging in more public speaking endeavors.
