Pastor Brian Peterson is a Lutheran (ELCA) Pastor who has served three parishes in 26 years of professional ministry, 17 of those in his current congregation Ascension Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas. Hunger and Justice ministries have been a passion of his for many years. Over the past decade, Brian has found a home away from home in the community of San Juan de la Concha, Nicaragua, first as part of a Spanish immersion program and more recently in support of Asociacion Tierra, a non profit in the community that provides services to poor disabled children in the San Juan community. Having participated in numerous delegations with the Nicaragua Network and Honduran Solidarity Network, Brian is well versed in Central American immigration issues, particularly in the various political, social and economic causes of migration. Brian has led his congregation to become active in the refugee resettlement through Refugee Services of Texas, an LIRS partner organization. He and his congregation have assisted numerous families from around the world to settle in the Austin area. Brian also works as a part-time hospital chaplain and teaches clarinet. Brian has two adult sons who share his passion for travel and adventure.
